A special ending to a funeral service

Today we assisted a family in the funeral service for their father/partner. We always like to conclude with something of significance about the person we are farewelling. In the closing words today, I was able to use the morse code that my own father had taught me as a child.

“Many of you know ….’s long association with morse code through his work life in communications. Morse code changed how we communicated throughout the world, allowing messages to be communicated quickly and efficiently. For over 150 years this specialised communication, known by very few, made a difference to many lives – particularly impacting on shipping, where … spent many years. Morse code transmissions are no longer ‘officially’ used  at sea ... the end of a life time!

…., too, made a difference to many around him in his 77 years – his family, his partner, his friends, his work colleagues and those who he met during his travels. Just as with ‘morse code’, the world was changed and became a better place because of …’s life and how he chose to live it.

And so, as is customary when closing down a morse code station’s transmissions and saying cheerio:

_._.   ._.. ._   ._.
